St Nikodemos the Hagiorite of Mt Athos

St Nikodemos the Hagiorite of Mt Athos was a monk of the Mt Athos during the 18th century. He has specific writings on fasting which include interesting recommendations like "not eating until the 9th hour" and eating once a day. He is not the first monk to recommend this as writings from St Epiphanius from the early 300s, recommended the same! This tradition of intermittent fasting goes far back and is fundamental to an optimal Orthodox Fasting program. It is fascinating to consider that this obedience, tradition, and act of ascetism would pack a powerful physiological benefit. All mammals who practice this live 30% longer! .
